Belafonte at Carnegie Hall is a live double album by Harry Belafonte issued by RCA Victor. It is the first of two Belafonte Carnegie Hall albums and was recorded on April 19 and April 20, 1959. The concerts were benefits for The New Lincoln School and Wiltwyck School, respectively.
To perform in Carnegie Hall must surely be the greatest ambition of every artist, regardless of his or her style of music. But it also presents an enormous challenge, because on such an evening ‘good’ isn’t good enough. The artist is not merely expected to perform to his or her usual high standard - the evening must be exceptional. Harry Belafonte, the charismatic and highly experienced performer, certainly managed to fulfil such expectations, as is testified to by the present double album, which has retained its place as a best-seller at the top of the charts over many years.
This performance contains three acts, as it were: Afro-American moods, Caribbean songs and excursions into the music of the world.
Belafonte is in top form and celebrates an exciting, sparkling festival of song, including spontaneous comic interludes, which arise from direct interaction with his enthralled and enthusiastic audience. He is brilliantly supported by Bob Corman and his 47-man orchestra, an ensemble which is reduced to a small combo when the maestro raises his husky voice.
It goes without saying that all the favourites are there such as “Jamaica Farewell”, “Day-O” and “Mama Look A Boo Boo”, making this Carnegie Hall event one of the most mesmerizing live performances of all time, which captures the essence of the performer in his prime (All Music Guide). With this double album, you too can sit in the audience and enjoy this great event.

About Crystal Disc
A Crystal Disc is a CD made of a special kind of glass. It is very expensive, but sounds great and crystal! This is the CD which can provide as close as the original master.
Crystal disc, manufactured by the largest CD factory in Japan - Memory Tech Corporation, is a revolutionary Compact Disc using glass substrate instead of polycarbonate. This newly developed technology allows sound reproduction at a level previously unknown and is as close to the master sound source as cutting-edge technology allows. For this purpose, Crystal disc is fabricated by our Laser Disc technology cultivated over many years using the best-selected materials.
■ The use of glass substrate instead of conventional polycarbonate substrate. As the reflective layer, gold is adopted in exchange for conventional aluminium.
■ For pit transcription, Photo Polymerization process(2P process) using a metal stamper is adopted. This process makes pit transcription highly precise compared with the conventional injection moulding process. The technology of the 2P process was cultivated by our production of test discs for calibrating industrial optical pickup heads.
■ Surface flatness of the glass substrate is much superior to the conventional CD. Glass substrate is hardly influenced by the variation of temperature and humidity. Furthermore, the absence of birefringence coming from the optical uniformity of the glass substrate realized a signal with extremely low noise and low jitter.
