The natural room reverberation cannot be imitated by even the most modern technology in studio recordings. The sound spectrum of the huge percussion arsenal is immortalized on tape with great precision. For me, the cymbal work with the most diverse mallets has never been captured on record in such close proximity and tonal precision. The infinitely fine nuances that Sommer draws from his arsenal are all captured. Even in a live concert, this immediacy cannot be felt, heard and experienced in this presence. Günter "Baby" Sommer, born in Dresden in 1943, is an internationally renowned German drummer and percussionist. He is one of the first generation of free jazz musicians in Europe.
