Plasma Records & Tapes

Under the label Plasma Records & Tapes, analogue direct copies of original tapes from this collection are published in small editions. The master tape copy is in the top sonic class, and the intimate atmosphere of the recording and is characterized by excellent melody lines.

No other analogue medium was as close to musicians as the tape. Records and music cassettes were consumer media, but the tape machines were in the studios, the music was mixed on them - and the artists listened to the music directly from the tape.

Nevertheless, this medium is threatened with extinction like no other: too complicated, too expensive and taking up too much space in a time when people believed that the digitization of all analogue media - whether music or films - would be the solution to all problems (it is not, as we now know).

Today, a trend reversal is underway among consumers, but also in archives, at SRF and many labels: Preserving and working with analogue media is an important way of dealing with Switzerland's audiovisual heritage. This is a responsibility that is fortunately being increasingly recognized again. This is also exciting because interest in analogue media such as vinyl, cassettes or Super8 film has increased significantly in society and among consumers. Dealing with such media is therefore also current and contemporary.
