To celebrate the founding of the Tonbandjagd association, we held our first public listening session of the tape release “Chlöisu Friedli, Studio Sessions” at Lichtspiel.
This master tape copy is in the top sonicly sound class. The fluidly played blues conveys the intimate atmosphere of the recording and is characterized by excellent melody lines and powerful and expressive vocals.
SPECIAL PREORDER ONLY ON DEMAND
Chlöisu Friedli's impressive musical work is still remembered today. He possessed a very good power of observation and the ability to narrate his experiences in short, concise sentences and to set the scene with his music on the piano. His fragmentary texts, which are nonetheless full of meaning, build up into stories in the listener's mind. Tscharni-Blues, for example, is about the Tscharnergut residential area in the Swiss city of Bern, which was planned and built on a field between 1959 and 1965.
The meadow where the boys used to fly kites fell victim to urban planning. Then Chlöisu's father died. He missed him very much. His mother met a new man... The sound engineer Adi Tosetto tells of particularly intimate moments during the recordings, which were played live on tape in the studio in 1981/82 with piano and vocals.

The tape with recordings of Chlöisu Friedli's studio sessions from 1980-1981 was the next project. The release is being made in collaboration with the Fata Morgana label and the Tonbandjagd Schweiz association.
No other analogue medium was as close to musicians as the tape. Records and music cassettes were consumer media, the tape machines were in the studios, the music was mixed on them - and the artists listened to the music directly from the tape. Nevertheless, this medium is threatened with disappearance like no other. Too complicated, too expensive and taking up too much space at a time when people long believed that the digitization of analogue media was the solution to all problems.
Nevertheless, a trend reversal is now underway among consumers, but also on the radio and many labels. An important debate about Switzerland's audiovisual heritage is taking place via analogue audio media. This is a responsibility that is fortunately being recognized more strongly again.
To keep this medium alive and in circulation in the truest sense of the word, the non-commercial label Plasma Records & Tapes is releasing limited editions of fully analogue copies of the original master tapes of Swiss bands.
